Passover is the 8 day observance commemorating the freedom and exodus of the Israelites from Egypt. A time of family gatherings and lavish meals called Seders, the story of Passover is retold through the reading of the Haggadah. With its special foods, songs, and customs, the Seder is the focal point of the Passover celebration.

Purim and Pessah teach us “whoever is hungry, let them come and eat”. Jewish law tells us that charity begins at home. With all our blessings, we must focus on the sheltering and feeding the poor. Getting involved in the community and your synagogue is the first and biggest step to help the more unfortunate. This does not have to require a big commitment of your time, but more your readiness to assist and organize in any way possible.

For Purim, we had the Poker Tournament and the Bal Masqué just a few weeks ago. They are prime examples of people assisting each other in organizing two beautiful functions that brought about such joy to those who attended as well as financial contribution to the youth program. We need more of this kind of “getting together”, enjoyment of those who organize as well as those who attend.

Hanukah and TuB’shvat were another two holidays that brought a lot of people to our synagogue and were enjoyed tremendously by all. Again, through the great effort of the Youth Director and her two coordinators, the Youth and Young Adult presidents.

My thanks to all the hardworking and resourceful people who take part in contributing to our synagogue.

On behalf of myself and my family, I wish you all a very happy Pessah, a beautiful Spring and warm Summer.
